As usual, the weather was not at its best for the Area 10 trip to Ipswich Slot Car Club. Nine intrepid racers ventured out in the freezing conditions to support the Ipswich club. Unfortunately a few of the regulars could not make it, including the local “star” driver, Paul Austin. Richard Mack decided not race and ran race control all day in the draughty seat. A big thanks go to Richard for his efforts all day to make the meeting run smoothly.
Four clubman drivers contested the production race. Nick Clements took a well deserved win from Steve Taylor . Ricky Gowen and John Clements competed in their first area round and acquitted themselves very well. The area championship is now wide open and all to race for in the final round.
Richard actually TQ’d in 32Saloon before withdrawing from the race. TQ in the other 2 classes was won by James Cleave, although 32F1 was remarkably close with Gavin Wills only 0.003 seconds behind!
James won 32Saloon from Gavin to keep his championship title alive. They are both on level points with one round to go and a dropped score to figure into the mix. Nick Clements finished in a excellent third place, beating his brother for the second round in a row. Ricky was a brilliant fifth and was very comfortable with the track at his first event away from Rockingham.
In 32F1, Chris Clements stole third place from Mick Thomson, when Mick’s gears moved due to a stripped grub screw. Nick Clements was also a commendable fourth with a car fully rebuilt by his brother.
32ES saw a large gaps between a mixture of cars that were running in this class. Some were Falcon production cars, some were 32Saloon cars with sports bodies and a mixture of old and new Eurosport cars. Nick Made it into the A- Race, but couldn’t keep pace with the experienced Mick Thomson. Chris Clements was best of the Falcons and secured fifth position.
The whole event was very relaxed and finished by 16:15 to allow plenty of time to return home for dinner.
